Baby Bhoot's Drawing by my daughter, now aged 14
The eye looked friendly but a little scared. Baby Bhoot felt a little more brave. He moved the curtain back and looked out properly.The blanket slid halfway down. Baby Bhoot saw a small boy sitting on the bed, staring hard at him. His eyes were so big and round Baby Bhoot thought they would fall out of his head.
“Who are you?” The boy whispered loudly.
“Sshh, be quiet. I’m Baby Bhoot.”
“Baby Bhoot?You’re a ghost?”
“Yes, look.” Baby Bhoot flew forward.
“Ow!” yelled the boy, diving under the blanket again, “Alright, alright, I believe you.”
Baby Bhoot stopped near the lamp, “Are you scared of me?”
“No-o-o” said the boy slowly, “Do you live in my house?”
“Yes,” said Baby Bhoot, “Are you hiding?” he giggled.
“I’m not hiding,” said the boy loudly and sat up straight. He looked at Baby Bhoot properly, “I’ve never seen a ghost before.”
Baby Bhoot couldn’t stop giggling, “You were so scared….hee! hee! hee!”
The boy glared at Baby Bhoot, “So were you!” he shouted
“Hee!Hee!Hee!” Baby Bhoot couldn’t stop laughing, “What’s your name?”
“I won’t tell you!”
Baby Bhoot stopped laughing. “Alright, I won’t laugh anymore. Now tell me your name.”
The boy came straight up to Baby Bhoot and poked a finger at him. The finger went right through but the boy didn’t seem scared. “You really are a bhoot.”
Then he said, “My name’s Bumpy.”
“That’s a silly name,” said Baby Bhoot, “why Bumpy?”
“Daddy says it’s because I was a Bump before I became a Baby,” said Bumpy, “All babies are bumps first. You must have been one too,” he giggled, “Bumpy Bhoot! Hee! Hee! Hee! Your name should be Bumpy Bhoot!”
Bumpy began to laugh.
Baby Bhoot looked at him and began to laugh.
They laughed so hard that they fell on to the bed holding on to their tummies and shaking like jellies.
And that’s how Bumpy and Baby Bhoot became friends. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
